Voices for Independence and TRPIL are proud to announce that our Washington, PA program and community center is NOW OPEN, following an incredible Grand Opening event on Friday, December 8, 2023. The historic former YWCA has a rich history of serving individuals in the Washington area, and we look forward to continuing that tradition by bringing more disability-related resources and services to the community, in bigger ways than ever before. On December 8, we were privileged to hold guided tours for the public, following a ribbon cutting ceremony which featured speeches from Voices for Independence/TRPIL CEO Shona Eakin, UPMC for You President John Lovelace, former South Strabane Township Supervisor Commissioner Bracken Burns, longtime supporter Ed Morascyzk, and former PA State Representative Leo Trich. Mr. Burns, Mr. Morascyzk, and Mr. Trich all have served TRPIL as members of the Capital Campaign Cabinet.
This event allowed visitors a first look at the building, featuring our new UPMC Health Plan Wellness Center, UPMC Health Plan Internet Café, auditorium, TRPIL Assistive Technology area, Employment Services department, and much more.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who visited us throughout the day, including representatives from the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce, PA State Rep. Natalie Mihalek’s office, Congressman Guy Reschenthaler’s office, our countless longtime supporters, consumers, and so, so many more– you all helped make this Grand Opening an incredibly special event. For photos from the event, please see the photo album below, and keep an eye out for upcoming dedicated photos of the aforementioned UPMC Health Plan Wellness Center & UPMC Health Plan Internet Café!
